Seam Test

The internal seam tests are made using the seam scope projector. A seam scope projector is a specially designed microscope. It enlarges the cross section of a cut double seam and projects this image down onto a screen. Two calipers attached to a scale lie on the projection screen and can be moved to take the various measurements. The first measurements are taken from the cut seam section to the left of the side seam.

Procedure:

Step 1- Insert the seam section into the notch in the clamp and then securely tighten the with the screw. Some adjustments should be made when inserting the seam section to assure it is completely in focus through the view port. Oil will often be deposited on the seam during cutting which will blur the projected image of the cross section. The oil is easily removed by rubbing the cross section with an eraser.

Step 2- Take measurements by sliding the two calipers located on the projection screen. The scale is marked at the 0.001" scale. Adjust the calipers to measure the body hook, overlap, cover hook, and width.

Step 3- Repeat the above steps, taking the exact same measurements, on the second seam section.

Note
: The measurements are usually made in the order of:
1) body hook, 2)overlap, 3)cover hook, 4)width.
